Abraham van der Hoef

Delft 1611 - Haarlem 1666

This artist specialised in military paintings. His father, Frans van der Hoef, was a rich art dealer and an important art collector. He studied art abroad and there is evidence that he was living in Milan in 1600 and then on his return, in Annastraat. He painted in the style of Cornelis van Haarlem, whose paintings had been represented in the Delft inventories and later under the influence of Palamedes Palamedesz and Jan Martszen the Younger. His work was set between the cities of Amsterdam and Delft.
